PRESS RELEASE

Helping Alopecia Trust (HAT) and Alopecia UK are pleased to announce that, following talks over the past few months, the two charities have merged.

HAT have been working in Northern Ireland for nearly 10 years, offering help and support to those affected by alopecia. From 1st July 2019 the two charities will be combined as one entity: Alopecia UK.

The combined charity will be the foremost organisation within the UK, dedicated to supporting all those affected by alopecia through aims of Support, Awareness and Research.

The successful merger will see £10,000 from HAT invested directly into research projects.  The remaining funds brought to Alopecia UK from HAT will be restricted for the benefit of those with alopecia in the Northern Ireland region.

Everyone who is currently registered with HAT will receive details of how to register with Alopecia UK so they can be kept informed about support meetings and anything else happening within the area. Alopecia UK will also be offering travel grants of up to £150 to anyone who wishes to travel from Northern Ireland to its national ‘Big Weekend’ event, taking place in Bristol at the end of September.

Stuart Long, former Chairman of HAT, said “While it’s been a sad day losing the Helping Alopecia Trust identity, it is a fantastic opportunity to enhance the services offered by HAT and we know Alopecia UK will go from strength to strength in the region”.

Simon Ray, Chair of Trustees of AUK, said: “We are excited that this merger has been successfully completed and we hope this will lead to the development of further services for those with alopecia in Northern Ireland. We also hope to see lots of people from Northern Ireland at our Big Weekend 2019 in Bristol in September!”
